Year of Ancient Ancestors Festival

As part of Homecoming 2014, Caithness Horizons will be launching the “Year of Ancient Ancestors” festival – a year-long programme to celebrate the unique Pictish and Norse heritage of the county of Caithness.

Starting with the popular Sprit of Speyside Festival, taking in Edinburgh’s Whisky Strammash and the international celebrations around World Whisky Day and ending in the blissful surroundings of The Islay Festival. Whisky month will take in 100s of events that spread across the entire country, celebrating the world-beating quality of Scotland’s food and drink output.

European Festival of Brass

Europe’s biggest brass band festival will be staged in Scotland in 2014. The European Festival of Brass welcomes visitors and players from all over the continent. Featuring the 7th European Solo Championships, the European Youth Brass Band and the 2014 European Brass Band Championships.

Scottish Diaspora Tapestry Exhibition and Events Programme

Scottish Diaspora Tapestry

A nationwide programme of events to welcome the magnificent Scottish Diaspora Tapestry, created over the last two years by volunteers in 25 countries around the world, depicting the experiences of migrant Scots over the centuries. The 200+ embroidered panels will come together in February and tour the country until November, not to be missed!

Celtic Connections Festival

The festival will stage a one-off collaboration in an exciting new large scale venue in Glasgow. Featuring the best musical talent coming home to Scotland, the evening is sure to be unforgettable, and will be launched alongside the rest of the Celtic Connections programme later this year.
